Project Description: Barred owls appear quite
abundant at the Gorge. Screech owls do not. To
complement Chris Nagy’s doctoral research on the
impact of urbanization of screech owl population
biology, Katherine is investigating how Barred owls,
predator/competitor of screech owls, are distributed
in the Gorge.
In 2008, after finding a few individuals by chance,
Katherine added great-horned owl surveys to her
project.
