LTA Accreditation

LTA Accreditation SealIn August 2010, the Mianus River Gorge Preserve was awarded Land Trust Accreditation Status by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission of the Land Trust Alliance. This distinction signifies that the Gorge met national quality standards in nonprofit management and land conservation and that the Gorge has systems in place to keep its promise of permanent land protection. The award culminated an extensive and external multi-year review of the Gorge’s mission, land stewardship, governance and internal controls. As of August 2011, the Gorge is one of only 135 Land Trusts out of the 1,700 nationwide that are accredited.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission based in Saratoga Springs, New York, awards the accreditation seal to community institutions that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. The Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance established in 2006, is governed by a volunteer board of diverse land conservation and nonprofit management experts from around the country. The mission of Mianus River Gorge, an independent, not-for-profit organization, is to preserve, protect and promote appreciation of the natural heritage of the Mianus River watershed through land acquisition and conservation, scientific research and public education throughout the region.
