Join MRG Executive Director Rod Christie for a walk deep into “the forest primeval,” or the old-growth forest in the Preserve. Learn about this rare community of ancient hemlocks (some close to 400 years old), with its rich soils intertwined with mycorrhizal fungi, that is home to abundant wildflowers, vernal pools and rare animals. Find out about MRG’s “Campaign to Save the Hemlocks” which targets strategies to save the old-growth forest from the hemlock woolly adelgid and other threats.  This is an on-trail walk of 1-2 miles over up-and-down terrain.

RSVP to info@mianus.org or (914) 234-3455.

Please note: Park on the southeast side of the road, just south of 14 Mianus River Rd.

The mission of Mianus River Gorge, an independent, not-for-profit organization, is to preserve, protect and promote appreciation of the natural heritage of the Mianus River watershed through land acquisition and conservation, scientific research and public education throughout the region.
