Our meeting on the 16th went very well, both the indoor and outdoor parts (we can always count on our local barred owls
for a good showing). Thank you to everyone who attended. It was great to meet some of our volunteers in person. We've
posted a short summary of our discussions and put up the powerpoint slides we showed (for those interested in the
numbers) if you weren't able to come and want to see what happened. Click here for the summary.

We are having a gathering for our volunteers in October. We'll be going over some of the data you have collected and
asking for some feedback. We'll have an owl walk afterwards as well. (Free snacks too). Please check your email for the
announcement or get in touch with us for details.
Also, please begin your fall surveys this month whenever you wish. We will be suspending the program over the winter to
not bother the birds during the harsh months.

Our summer season has officially begun this month, so everyone should start surveying.
Our general suggestion is to survey once for each species each month, which roughly means do one survey each week
and take the fourth week of the month off. By August, you should have 3 surveys for each species.
Also remember to submit your data after each survey using our online form. Thank you to everyone who has submitted
data thus far. We are planning on updating the map after each month.
We have a small number of email addresses who do not seem to be working (most likely because we have recorded them
incorrectly on our end). If you did not receive a "Get Started" email from us at the beginning of the month, get in touch
with us.
Some people have asked to survey locations other than their residences. We would like everyone to survey their own
property to start. Please contact us if you want to add another location.
Thanks everyone, and good luck!
We have password-protected a few pages on this site.
All participants should have received an important email on Friday May 8, with haven't received the email, please let us
know. If you are registered but don't have an email, we can give you the info over the phone.

Everyone who registers after 5/12 will get the info individually, so don't worry if you have just joined up.

Hi everyone, hope you all had a good winter. We will be starting up again on April 1 so we hope that everyone will be
back to continue their surveys. We are simplifying our protocol this year based on some feedback we got and on some
preliminary analysis. All of the changes are reflected in the website currently.
Most importantly, we are no longer dividing the year into separate survey periods, or seasons. Just try to get 6
surveys for each species by the end of October. We are primarily interested at this point in screech and barred owls,
but if you have the time, feel free to do some great-horned surveys too.
Thanks!

We want to thank everyone at Claremont Elementary School for allowing us to talk about our project and recruit more
volunteers, particularly Ms. Lockwood.
If you are a Claremont student and would like to get started in the project, have your parents sign and return the permission
slip to Ms. Lockwood. Read this site with your parents to learn how to perform a survey.
Thank you again to our new volunteers.
