The College Internship in Suburban Ecology Program (CISE) offers summer or semester internships to college students and recent graduates who are interested in learning about the unique challenges facing urban/suburban natural resource managers. Through a variety of research and land management projects, interns are trained in the skills needed to pursue a successful career in the environmental sciences. College interns work individually and collaboratively with RAP students, and also serve as additional mentors to WTP students.
In the past, our interns have worked on a number of projects individually or as a team including:
- Completed a Bedford Village Tree Map in Bedford, NY involving tree identification, tree health assessment and GIS mapping,
- Created a dichotomous key for identifying prey remains in coyote scat,
- Surveyed MRGP vernal pools for amphibian life,
- Used wildlife camera traps to observe coyotes and bobcats,
- Conducted nighttime surveys for owls throughout Westchester County,
- Assisted in Mianus River clean-up, and
- Helped to complete flatworm surveys at other local nature preserves
